Digital payments have become ever more important since the pandemic, with the RBA finding we made an average of 625 electronic transactions per person in 2020-21 compared to just 275 a decade earlier.

But, with all relatively unknown practices 鈥 there are both opportunities and concerns. WFA has the potential to affect communication skills, such as brainstorming and problem-solving, knowledge sharing, camaraderie, and mentoring. These basic skills are necessities for development, especially for junior staff starting out in the workforce. Distributed ways of working also lead to potential data security vulnerabilities, and there are regulatory issues to consider. For example, some countries allow people to work remotely on a tourist visa, but others do not - so it鈥檚 important that HR teams and business leaders check what the rules are in countries employees may be traveling to. , countries that offer a form of digital nomad visas include Australia, Czech Republic, UAE, Estonia, Germany, Thailand, Indonesia, Italy, Spain, and Brazil, among many others. These visas typically require proof of income and remote employment, travel insurance, and intent to depart.

Working from anywhere isn鈥檛 suitable for all industries

Consulting group commissioned research into the analysis of 2,000 tasks, 800 jobs, and nine countries. Their overall analysis found that the potential for remote work is significantly concentrated among highly skilled, highly educated workers in a handful of industries, occupations, and geographies. Finance and insurance have the highest potential due to the nature of their role and the ability for activities to be executed remotely and without loss of productivity. A $345 million electric car discount will exempt eligible cars from the fringe benefits tax and the five per cent import tariffs, which would in turn save an employer up to $9000 a year on a $50,000 car.

Alongside changes at federal level, state incentives across Australia mean now businesses can begin to plan a future that includes mixed fleets while also considering an eventual move to fully electric fleets once Australia has fully implemented the right infrastructure. The Committee for Sydney and ACT plan on banning new petrol and diesel vehicles from and respectively means now is the time to begin the long term planning of switching to a mixed fleet in order to save both time and money in the long run.

An exciting future ahead for fleet managers

The support shown by state Governments in the form of rebates, waived stamp duty and registration fees has had a positive impact on the transport industry.聽 as more Australians ditched the petrol pump. Further, some states and territories have made commitments to electrifying buses, with NSW leading the way by pledging to of over 8000 buses, which will be powered by renewables by 2030.
